Can a Blogger Be Good for Anything? How about saving a man's life, through dogged reporting. Bra-freakin'-vo, Radley Balko, and if any of you aren't familiar with his work regarding Cory Maye, and how what happened to Maye can happen to you, you might want to start scrolling down. As Jim Henley so aptly put it (stealing from Gene Healey), "Sure beats getting Dan Rather fired, huh."

This Old Post About My Short, Unhappy Life with The American Prospect Seems to Be Half-Relevant These Days: Because of this. (Brendan Nyhan has more at his blog.)
I have nothing of substance to add, besides noting that Nyhan and Spinsanity were perfectly known quantities, that the Prospect obviously continues having bipolar issues on the management level, and that the one good line I cut from my bit at Cathy Seipp's roast was something like "Cathy plays by different rules than the rest of us. For instance, what we all understand as 'don't tell anyone,' Cathy interprets as 'don't tell anyone for about 12 months or so, then publish it in a media column.'" Not funny, necessarily, but true in this case, and keeping me from having mine cold, as Swearengen would say.
Other than that....
* Hey look -- a column of mine referencing Nyhan and those crazy Kos kids from way back in April 2004!
* Eric Alterman -- still rancid!
* Check out that rock band!

So What Should the Angels Do Next Year? Mr. Chronicles of the Lads, whose name I think is Sean, has better ideas than 96% of whoever else you'll read.

This Is Only a Test: This is not, for instance, a comment on the turmoil at the Tribune Company. Nor should it be construed as a forward-looking comment on the Los Angeles Angels of Silver Lake, who are skippered by a manager who is congenitally unable to put his best nine players on the field in a given day. Just won't do it. No, this is a test to see whether this server-switch is going as swimmingly well as I suspect....
